Let us first consider the epidemiology and natural history of gastroesophageal reflux disease. Reflux is a common disorder. Most patients are actually seen in a primary care setting. The majority of those who have symptoms of reflux, do not have mucosal breaks at endoscopy. Reflux is a chronic disorder with a negative impact on quality of life. |
