Proton pump inhibitors: are they all the same?

These differences in metabolism may translate into important clinical consequences with respect to drug interaction profiles.. For omeprazole, dependence on cytochrome P450 metabolism may result with interactions with diazepam, warfarin and phenytoin.

For lansoprazole an interaction with theophylline may occur. This does not appear to be an issue for rebeprazole or pantoprazole. Interactions that are based on pH dependent absorption will, of course, occur with all the proton pump inhibitors due to their inhibitions of gastric acids. This is of relevance to patients on Digoxin and ketoconazole.
