Montreal congress aims to be “most innovative ever”

Canadian hosts of world bodies’ 2005 meeting pledge global relevance, sustained web-casting and evidence-based medical focus; 15,000 participants foreseen.

Backed by the worldwide resources of OMGE and OMED, Canada’s gastroenterologists are surging ahead with plans for “the most innovative program the World Congress has ever seen”, says Dr. Richard Fedorak, president of the Canadian Organizing Committee. “There will be a special focus on world relevance and evidence-based medicine, which is a particular Canadian expertise. We’ll also include nutrition and discussions of holistic and alternative medicine. The Young Clinicians’ Day, so successful in the 2002 congress in Bangkok, will be repeated in Montreal with an equally exciting agenda.”

The six-day event, Sept. 9 – 14, 2005, expects to welcome some 15,000 participants, including strong North and South American contingents, and more than 150 speakers. The organizers have chosen as theme, 'Global goals in gastroenterology: Expanding horizons in the 21st century'.

The Canadian hosts are working energetically with OMGE, OMED and several affiliated societies on an unprecedented programme. The following have agreed to integrate their courses with the world meeting agenda:
American Gastroenterological Association - AGA
American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases - AASLD
American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy - ASGE
International Society for Diseases of the Esophagus - ISDE
Interamerican Association of Gastroenterology - AIGE
Canadian Society for Clinical Nutrition - CSCN and the Wellesley Endoscopy Group of St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto.

Montreal is the medical congress capital of Canada. Its Palais des Congrès convention centre has state-of-art technology to ensure the very best transmission of all the scientific and education programmes. And for those unable to travel to Montréal, the internet will allow participation through web session broadcasting and live endoscopic demonstrations, as well as interactive discussions with experts and congress faculty, making the 2005 World Congress "truly universally accessible", says Dr. Fedorak.
