Jeremy Sanderson is a consultant gastroenterologist and Head of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital in London, UK. He qualified in medicine in 1984 from Charing Cross Hospital Medical School, University of London, and undertook most of his postgraduate training in teaching hospitals in London. He spent a year as a senior registrar at St Vincent's Hospital, Melbourne, Australia, in 1992. Prior to this he gained an MD from the University of London for his research into the role of mycobacterium paratuberculosis in Crohn's disease. Since then he has developed a specialist interest in the assessment and management of inflammatory bowel disease. He was appointed consultant at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital in 1995 and has built up a large IBD clinic over the last ten years. Dr Sanderson's specific interests include the pharmacogenetics of immunosuppressive drugs, IBD genetics and oral manifestations of GI disease, and he retains an interest in the potential role of m.paratuberculosis in Crohn's disease. A regular lecturer in the field of IBD, he is Secretary of the London IBD Forum and Editor of another IBD website, ibdforum.com. For the last three years he has been Honorary Secretary of the British Society of Gastroenterology.
