Jerome Waye is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA. Since completing his gastroenterology fellowship at the Mount Sinai Hospital, New York City, he has been in the forefront of integrating technology and medicine. He introduced the concept of colonoscopy without fluoroscopy by defining endoscopic landmarks and taught ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancratography) to peers and students all over New York. In 1980, he was president of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and in 1982 became president of the American College of Gastroenterology. He was a founding member of the New York Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He has also received the highest honors awarded by these organizations: the Schindler Award, the Founder's Award, the Master Teacher and Endoscopist Award, respectively. In the era of live courses and live demonstrations of techniques, Dr Waye travels across the world to introduce the latest methods and techniques of colonoscopy and complex polypectomy. He was recently appointed Editor of World Gastroenterology News, the publication of OMGE and OMED. He is currently international editor for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and has taken on the responsibility of publishing a column every month in the 'Perspectives' section of the journal. He has been treasurer of OMED, the international organization for digestive endoscopy, and also served as chairman of OMED's education committee.He has authored seven books, innumerable abstracts, and has published almost two hundred scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals.
